That's a smile not an upside down frown!

Hard to read I know, but this was only an experiment.

I initially thought that this was going to be an easy task. It really wasn't.

It may look simple but the .PSD for this image actually contains 58 layers!

EDIT: Refined shading.

Wow. This is one of the better pieces of typography I've seen out there.
The quote, or saying, that you used is really great. However, after I've looked at your design, I'm inclined to notice that it doesn't really "fit" as nicely as it should. I think that a visual representation of the piece would not only attract more attention from your audience, but also give it a much better tone.
The lines running off the page have admittedly been used a lot in typography by now. However, you've taken what used to be a touch-up to a piece and turned it into the focal point of the entire display. That's pretty amazing.
The only negative thing I noticed that caught my eye was overuse, or rather misuse/misplacement of gradients. Instead of having a gradient background to shade, brighten, or highlight the piece, you chose to use it within the connecting lines of the text. Although that stood out in a not so great way, I think it also adds a feeling of movement throughout the piece. They're also a little too rough to easily blend into the off-white text.
It's a nice piece and I'd love to see more.

I know it's infinitely difficult, but this would be epic to the Nth degree if this was an ambigram.

It is an ambigram. You just have to turn your monitor upside-down and stand on your head to see it :)

I love the concept here. It's really simple/minimalistic-ish (not in a bad way) but well executed.

Very cool. I like that it took me a minute to figure out. Just long enough to pique my interest, but not long enough to make me give up and loose interest. I really like the shading. I think I'm a "shading/rendering" addict.

You did such a fantastic job shading the overlapping stripes, what made you decide not continue the concept of "stripes" on the rest of the letters? Like with the sharp turns at the bottom corners of the "W" and the one corner at the top and bottom of the"N"?

Very fanciful and clever piece.

After staring at "Upside Down Frown" for quite a while now, I'm left feeling truly inspired by your amazing work. Nice job.

Whoa, thanks for the crit.
I'm not sure I've ever inspired anybody before.

After reading your comment this morning and viewing the image with fresh eyes, I have to agree with you about the gradient shading.
The gradients were necessary to give a feeling of depth to the over-under effect. I've now refined the shadows making the shading less necessary.
I think it's an improvement. I hope you do too.

p.s. I've turn on the crit feature. You can re-sub this as a real critique if you like.
